For Alabama It's The Mad Hatter / Kissing Bandit Next and His LSU Tigers

Larry BurtonOct 27, 2009

Look at the picture and I guess LSU should invoke a don't ask don't tell policy over why the coaches and players love Les Miles so much.

That aside, the Cajun Kisser brings his boys to Tuscaloosa for a little old fashioned revenge and a chance to play in the BCS Championship Game. A one loss SEC team still has a good shot at getting in and Les Miles knows it.

However, the only kissing by LSU after this game with the Crimson Tide will be Les kissing Nick Saban's bottom one more time.

If Les didn't like the outcome of the Florida-LSU game, he won't like this one. LSU only scored one field goal against the Gators and Alabama has a defense that will likewise shut them down.

Yes Alabama has redzone problems right now, but two weeks off to work on it and a weeks worth of good rest will make all the difference. Alabama will simply take another top 10 team and drop them back to the also-ran status.

It's not being condescending, it's being realistic. Jordan Jefferson is not the man who can knock off Alabama. He is not the man to magically muster an offense that makes this defense fold. You know it, and so does Les Miles.

So look for Miles to put back on the 'Mad Hatter' hat and go for broke in this game.  Onside kicks, halfback passes, fake field goals, all are being looked forward to.

Nick Saban realizes that for LSU and Miles, this is the the last shot they have to get to a BCS bowl and he is preparing the team for that 'Anything Goes' attitude that Les does so well.

Since Nick Saban and Urban Meyer came to the SEC, Les is, and will always be, a second banana. He will field good teams, but they won't ever be SEC Champions again while either Saban or Meyer are there.

LSU will either have to learn to settle for mediocrity or look elsewhere for a coach who can change their fortunes.

The problem is, like Tennessee, who tasted the sweetness of a national championship, a mediocre program no longer will be good enough. LSU still hasn't accepted that they are one of those mediocre middle of the pack SEC teams, albeit they are an upper middle.

They still think they are 'in the hunt'. They honestly have no idea that they've become the prey for the top programs.

So for now, let Miles kiss on his players and coaches, because soon the administration will wake up and kiss him goodbye.
