Borussia Dortmund Chief Unaware of Liverpool's Interest in Christian Pulisic

Rory MarsdenMay 3, 2018

Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has denied any knowledge of Liverpool's reported interest in Christian Pulisic.

The BVB chief said he is in regular contact with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp—who was in charge at Westfalenstadion between 2008 and 2015—and has had no inkling the Reds are keen to move for Pulisic, per Bild (via Goal's Robin Bairner): "I'm in constant contact with Jurgen Klopp, but I know nothing about that."

Liverpool's interest in Pulisic, 19, has been widely reported for some time.

Miguel Delaney of The Independent wrote back in January that Liverpool were expected to make a move for the attacking midfielder in the summer and could face a challenge from Manchester United

Meanwhile, Bild recently reported Liverpool are preparing a €60 million (£53 million) bid for the teenager (via Goal's Ronan Murphy):

Despite his youth, Pulisic is already a well-established member of the Dortmund first team.

In 2017-18, he has made 30 appearances in the Bundesliga, returning four goals and five assists while operating in multiple positions.

The United States international—he already has 20 senior caps for the Stars and Stripes—has played most regularly on the right wing for BVB this season but has also been deployed as a right wing-back, in the No. 10 role and on the left flank.

Interest in him from Liverpool would make sense because Pulisic could fit in with the Reds' attacking trio of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.

Klopp needs to add depth to his squad in the summer. Despite reaching the UEFA Champions League final, Liverpool failed to launch a Premier League title bid this season.

With two games of their 2017-18 league campaign remaining, they have yet to guarantee a top-four finish in the Premier League and face a crucial clash at Chelsea on Sunday.

Pulisic would provide the Anfield outfit with an alternative attacking outlet and make them less reliant on their current forward trio.

He would also be an exciting addition to an already thrilling squad and would only likely improve under Klopp.
