WWE Rumors: Possible Brock Lesnar vs. Bobby Lashley SummerSlam Feud Discussed
While it's unclear whether Brock Lesnar's WWE contract runs through SummerSlam on Aug. 19, the company may have a plan in mind should the universal champion stick around until then.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter's Dave Meltzer reported Monday that WWE used the prospect of a match against Lesnar as a way to entice Bobby Lashley to return:
WWE announced the day after WrestleMania 34 in April that Lesnar had signed an extension. Many wondered whether the agreement was just about getting The Beast Incarnate to the Greatest Royal Rumble, where he would lose the Universal Championship to Roman Reigns and potentially focus on a return to UFC.
However, Lesnar retained the title in his steel cage match with Reigns, so it's anybody's guess as to how much longer his WWE run will continue.
If Lesnar is still with WWE by the time the SummerSlam build starts, then a feud with Lashley would make sense.
There aren't many wrestlers Lesnar could realistically take on at SummerSlam. He has already crossed paths with Reigns on multiple occasions and beaten both Samoa Joe and Braun Strowman in singles matches.
Lashley would at least be a fresh opponent. Lesnar had already left WWE when Lashley first started rising through the ranks in 2005.
Whether Lashley vs. Lesnar is the kind of match that can headline SummerSlam is up for debate, but it's at least a battle worthy of a place on one of WWE's biggest pay-per-views.
