Juventus in 'Constant Contact' with Manchester United over Anthony Martial

Christopher SimpsonApr 28, 2018

Juventus have reportedly been in touch with Manchester United, as they are targeting a move for Anthony Martial.

According to Calciomercato.com's Kaustubh Pandey, the Bianconeri spoke to United after Martial's camp reached out to them several months ago. There is said to have been "constant contact" regarding a move ever since.

Juve are set to make a bid to sign him this summer, though United are said to want at least €50 million (£44 million) for the forward.

Martial has seemingly grown frustrated with his situation at Old Trafford.

The 22-year-old has started 25 of his 42 appearances this season and has completed 90 minutes on just eight occasions. Since April 7, he has been an unused substitute three times.

Martial perhaps hasn't developed quite as United would have hoped when they signed him as a teenager in 2015, but he's still one of the most talented young players in the world.

Football writer Ryan Baldi thinks highly of him:

The France international has contributed 11 goals and 10 assists in all competitions for United this season—only Romelu Lukaku has been involved in more for the FA Cup finalists.

His numbers are only likely to increase, so allowing him to leave would be a puzzling move. Football writer Jordan Clarke would like Martial to stay, but he believes if United do let him leave this summer, it should only be on a temporary basis:

That would be far more palatable for many United fans than his sale, and he would ideally return from a spell with the Serie A giants an even more complete player.

It would perhaps be a more realistic option for Juve too, as it could be difficult for them to meet United's asking price.

The best option for the Red Devils would be to keep him at Old Trafford, though, so they can continue to benefit from his presence in the final third. But much could also depend on what Martial wants to do.
