Chelsea Transfer News: €75M Kalidou Koulibaly Offer Linked in Latest Rumours
Kalidou Koulibaly's winning goal for Napoli against Juventus has reignited the transfer rumour mill, with reports Chelsea are preparing a €75 million offer for the defender.
Il Mattino, a newspaper from Naples, reported the news on Monday (h/t Sport Witness).
As explained by Sport Witness, the €75 million figure―roughly £65 million―has been floating around for several years. Transfer fees have gone up dramatically of late, however, and such a gaudy price tag doesn't seem as crazy as it did a few years ago.
Koulibaly bagged the winner in Napoli's clash with Juventus on Sunday, a result that pulled the Partenopei within a single point of the Serie A leaders with four matches left to play.
Per football writer David Amoyal, it was a huge moment for the defender:
The 26-year-old has been a mainstay of Napoli's defence for years and has been a rock in the 2017-18 campaign, making 32 starts in Serie A. He's contributed five goals this season while maintaining good passing numbers and doing his defensive duties.
Links with the Blues have been ongoing for years, and last April, La Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t George Boulton in The Sun) reported comments from Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis in which he stated Koulibaly could leave if he said he didn't want to stay.
The Senegal international has given no indication he wants to leave the Partenopei, however, and Napoli have a reputation for keeping hold of their star players and being notoriously difficult to negotiate with.
