VA Tech Women's Lacrosse Coach Apologizes for Team Singing N-Word on Camera
Virginia Tech women's lacrosse coach John Sung has issued an apology after a video was posted online showing his team singing the N-word in a lyric from white rapper Lil Dicky's "Freaky Friday."
Sung addressed the video in a phone conversation with Mark Berman of the Roanoke Times.
“This is a teachable moment,” he said. “It’s not something that we’re proud of. The team is very apologetic and sorry. There’s nobody of any color that should say it. Period. There’s nobody that should say it.”
The video was originally shared on Snapchat under an account with the name of a Virginia Tech lacrosse player following the team's 14-12 victory over Elon on Saturday.
Per Berman, the 13-second video clip was posted on social media after it had been uploaded on Snapchat.
Sung noted the athletic department and campus community are still "working through everything" before deciding if there will be any disciplinary action taken against the players in the video.
