Former Louisville men's basketball coach Rick Pitino underwent emergency surgery Wednesday after he suddenly lost vision in his left eye during a trip to Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Florida.

According to the Louisville Courier-Journal's Danielle Lerner, Dale Romansโ€”who trains a horse Pitino co-ownsโ€”said the 65-year-old had surgery for a detached retina.

The operation was reportedly successful.

According toย Daily Racing Form'sย Marty McGee, Pitino returned to the track Thursday wearing dark glasses.

Pitinoโ€”who was fired by Louisville in October amid an FBI probe into corruption and bribery in college basketballโ€”co-owns three-year-old filly Coach Rocks with Roddy Valente.
