Liverpool Transfer News: Christian Pulisic Price Tag Reportedly Set

Christian Pulisic will reportedly cost Liverpool as much as €100 million (£88 million). The Borussia Dortmund forward's valuation was revealed by German broadcaster Sport1 (h/t the Daily Mirror), which also reported Liverpool's bitter rivals Manchester United are keen.

United States international Pulisic is emerging as one of the more precocious talents in the game. Still just 19, he is displaying technique, vision and a scoring touch not often seen in someone so young.

Those qualities will have attracted Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. The former Borussia Dortmund chief wants to replace Philippe Coutinho, who was sold to La Liga giants Barcelona during the January transfer window.

Liverpool's coffers were swelled to the tune of £142 million from the sale of Coutinho, but the Mirror noted how Klopp's interest in AS Monaco's Thomas Lemar has "cooled," which means "Pulisic has moved up the list of targets for the Reds this summer."

Landing Pulisic won't be easy, though, not with United's interest. The teenage attacker admitted he wants to move to England's top flight, but named the Red Devils as the team he supported as a boy, per an interview with ESPN FC.

However, if there's one silver lining it's United's squad already being well-stocked in forward areas. Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard can all play wide or though the middle, while the Old Trafford club signed versatile forward Alexis Sanchez from rivals Arsenal during the January transfer window.

United manager Jose Mourinho recently confirmed he doesn't need more attacking reinforcements when the transfer window opens again this summer.

If so, Liverpool would have a free run at Pulisic, with Klopp's Dortmund connections perhaps even being able to help the deal.

Adding Pulisic would restore the potent front four Liverpool boasted before letting Coutinho go. The No. 10's talent as a provider was vital for wide forwards Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, along with versatile No. 9 Roberto Firmino.

Things haven't been the same as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has struggled to replace Coutinho. Adam Lallana's injury woes also haven't helped.

Pulisic, who can play anywhere along the tip of midfield, has the eye for a pass to make Klopp's side the most dynamic attacking unit in the country again. Such a reward would make the hefty investment in a player with his best years still to come more than worth it.
