Today Coach O'Leary talked to the Central Florida media about the loss against Miami, the upcoming game vs. Rice, and the offense. Here's what he had to say:

On the Miami game

"We had opportunities we didn't take advantage of. But Miami is a good football team. When you get opportunities against a top 10 team like Miami you have to take advantage of that. But we didn't."

On the Rice matchup

"I have been watching them on tape and each week they've played some good competition. They have good playmakers that can do something with the ball. I've always thought they were well coached.

"The big thing is getting opportunities to make plays. They have some really good football players there. I've been really impressed with their defensive ends. They are in the position to make plays and they're going to make them."

On Red Zone inconsistency

"Execution is more important than anything else. When you have the chance to make a play you have to make it. Saturday night, we had the ball on the two yard line. You have to punch it in. It's not acceptable obviously, and we have to continue to work on execution and getting better down there (in the red zone)."

On the offense midway through the season

"The offense has improved line blocking wise. We are making plays; we just aren't making enough plays right now. Again, I think the big thing is that they (UCF's football squad) continue to work on their fundamental skills and then go from there.

"Defensively, we're on the field in too many situations. The big thing is 1-10 on three-and-outs. We have to be better. Otherwise, the field changes dramatically."

There will be no UCF coaches' teleconference next Monday, October 26. Coverage of the weekly George O'Leary C-USA teleconference will resume Monday, November 2. In the meantime, check out Jessica's other UCF Knights articles at Examiner.com Orlando.
