Former UFC Fighter Rony Jason Suspected of Assaulting Sister

Scott HarrisOct 10, 2017

Brazilian authorities are reportedly set to investigate former UFC fighter Rony Jason's possible role in a recent assault in Brazil.

Video footage captured on the scene allegedly shows the 33-year-old attacking a woman reported to be his sister.

The news was reported by Guilherme Cruz of MMA Fighting and Brazilian site G1. The video shows a man—allegedly Jason—striking a woman lying on the ground with his feet and hands before being held back by witnesses.

According to Cruz's translation of the G1 report, Janaina Siebra, head of the Women's Defense Department of Quixada, said the victim was Jason's sister and that an investigation was in process.

Jason, whose given name is Rony Mariano Bezerra, rose to prominence in MMA for winning the first season of The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil in 2012 and amassing a UFC record of 4-4 (1).

Cruz's report included a statement from the UFC announcing the fighter had been released in March after a loss to Jeremy Kennedy at UFC Fight Night 106 in Fortaleza, Brazil.

It was his third loss in four fights, with the other fight ruled a no-contest after Jason failed a drugs test following a submission victory over Damon Jackson at May 2015's UFC Fight Night 67. The failure earned him a nine-month suspension from competing.
