Barcelona Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Paulo Dybala and Ander Herrera

Tom SunderlandJul 29, 2017

Barcelona are reportedly battling with Real Madrid for the signature of Juventus forward Paulo Dybala and will move for his signature if Neymar leaves the club. Meanwhile, Manchester United have held talks with Barca target Ander Herrera regarding a new contract.

Italian daily La Repubblica and sources in Spain (h/t Calciomercato.com) reported the Blaugrana would be willing to spend a world-record €120 million (£107.4 million) on Dybala, who already has a relationship with Argentina team-mate and Barca icon Lionel Messi.

It's mentioned Real would only consider Dybala as an alternative to AS Monaco striker Kylian Mbappe, meanwhile, as they've been linked with the France international for much of this summer already.

Juventus have shown in the past that they're willing to sell their key players for the right sums, and Bleacher Report's Adam Digby acknowledged the Serie A champions can't bank on Dybala being their player in the long term as a result:

Paul Pogba broke the world transfer record when he left the Bianconeri for a return to Manchester United last summer, and Arturo Vidal left the summer prior to that after Bayern Munich met his requirements.

Dybala also recently refused to rule out an exit from the Old Lady while admitting he's happy in Turin, per Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Marca): "I am happy in Turin, I feel good and I'm going to train to the maximum. Am I going to stay 100 percent? I am fine here. If an offer arrives then it will firstly depend on Juventus and then on me."

The 23-year-old is regarded as a valuable commodity under manager Massimiliano Allegri and scored 19 goals across all competitions last season, taking his Juventus tally to 42 goals in just 94 games for the club.

Ravin Sampat of the BBC has also attested to the recent arrival of Federico Bernardeschi at Juve from Fiorentina and what that could mean for Dybala:

The Blaugrana will hope to keep hold of star man Neymar, whose €222 million (£196 million) buyout clause may not deter reported suitors Paris Saint-Germain from making a move.

That being said, pairing Dybala alongside international team-mate Messi would be a smart move if they did have to replace Neymar, whose future will dictate how active the Blaugrana are in this summer's transfer window.

Elsewhere, Barca's chances of signing United midfielder Herrera could be dashed if the Spaniard pens a new deal at Old Trafford, and James Ducker of the Telegraph reported the two parties are in talks over an extension.

Herrera's agent, Arturo Canales, is understood to have spoken with United official during their tour of the United States, and Barcelona would be forced to consider other options if he signed a new deal this summer.

The 27-year-old playmaker is presumably seen as a potential long-term successor to Andres Iniesta, 33, but after starring as a key man under manager Jose Mourinho last term, Herrera appears content at Old Trafford.

Catalan newspaper Sport provided quotes from Herrera earlier in July where he insisted there was "nothing from Barcelona" in regards to transfer rumours, adding that he felt "valued" with the Red Devils and is "very happy at United."

Herrera has entered the final year of his contract at the club and has the option for another year in his current deal, but a new agreement would nonetheless tie him down for the foreseeable future and end any Barca approach.
