Brandon Knight Tore ACL, Will Miss Next Season with Knee Injury

Rob GoldbergJul 25, 2017

Phoenix Suns guard Brandon Knight could miss the entire 2017-18 season after suffering a torn ACL in his left knee, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

The team later confirmed the news, noting the injury occurred while he was playing at home in South Florida and that he will undergo surgery.

The 25-year-old appeared in 54 games last season, averaging 11.0 points and 2.4 assists in 21.1 minutes per game. He remains under contract for the next three years at over $13 million per season.

Knight had averaged 19.6 points per game in 2015-16 as a starter at shooting guard, but he saw his role decrease last season with the emergence of Devin Booker.

This has led to rumors about a trade, with the New York Knicks reportedly interested, according toย Ian Begleyย of ESPN. Unfortunately, the latest injury will likely be a setback in any move.

Gerald Bourguet of Hoops Habit provided his thoughts on the impact of the injury:

While Knight has time to recover and return to full strength before he hits free agency in 2020, this issue could handcuff the Suns going forward. Considering the squad finished with just a 24-58 record last season, second-worst in the NBA, this is clearly not an ideal scenario.

Eric Bledsoe and Booker should remain starters in the backcourt unless Phoenix pulls off a trade, while Tyler Ulis and Davon Reed could also earn more playing time while Knight is unavailable.
