Carmelo Anthony Trade Rumors: Knicks Mulling Moving Star, Picks for Kyrie Irving

Kyrie Irving has named the New York Knicks as one of his preferred trade destinations, according to ESPN.com's Chris Haynes, and a new report shed light Friday on what the Cleveland Cavaliers could expect in return for the 25-year-old floor general.

According to ESPN.com's Ian Begley, the Knicks "would not be willing at this point to include Kristaps Porzingis in a trade," but some within the front office would be amenable to offering a package featuring Carmelo Anthony and future first-round picks. 

The Cavaliers would need to ship some additional salary out under that proposed framework since they're already over the luxury tax and Anthony ($26.2 million) will make $7.3 million more than Irving ($18.9 million) next season. 

However, the general concept of a deal centered around Irving and Anthony with first-round picks moving from New York to Cleveland is logical in theory. 

Unlike years past, the Knicks own all of their future first-round selections and will not be hamstrung by the Stepien Rule—which prohibits teams from trading first-round picks in back-to-back years—should they choose to make an aggressive pitch for Irving. 

According to ESPN.com's Adrian Wojnarowski, Anthony previously informed the Knicks he would be willing to waive his no-trade clause for either the Cavaliers or Houston Rockets.
