Derrick Rose Rumors: Cavaliers Reportedly Meeting with FA Amid Lakers Interest
ESPN's Chris Haynes reported Friday that free-agent point guard Derrick Rose and the Cleveland Cavaliers are expected to have a face-to-face meeting in the coming days.ย
Haynes added that Rose isn't expected to make a decision on where he will sign until next week.
Haynes and ESPN's Ramona Shelburneย reported Thursday that Rose met with the Los Angeles Lakers, who have interest in the veteran to play alongside and mentor rookie Lonzo Ball.
ESPN'sย Brian Windhorstย and Adrian Wojnarowski reported Thursday that Rose and the Cavs were in "serious" talks regarding a one-year deal.
Cleveland acquired veteran point guard Deron Williams to serve as Kyrie Irving's backup last season, but that spot is now vacant with Williams in free agency.
Rose had a strong statistical season in 2016-17, as he averaged 18.0 points, 4.4 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game for a New York Knicks team that struggled as a whole.
He spent the first eight years of his career with the Chicago Bulls, reaching three All-Star Games and earning NBA MVP honors in 2010-11.
Although injuries derailed him and knocked him from the elite ranks, Rose proved last season that he can still be a productive contributor.
Rose would be an ideal backup to Irving, and since Irving plays like a shooting guard in many instances, head coach Tyronn Lue could potentially play them alongside each other if the Cavs are able to sign him.
