Even though talk of a perfect season in Julyโtwo months before the regular season beginsโis wildly premature, the Patriots did inadvertently bring some of it on themselves.
ESPN.com'sย Darren Rovellย reported on Feb. 1 that online records showed the Patriots trademarked "Perfect Season" and "19-0," stemming from their quest for perfection 10 years ago.
The Patriots are the last NFL team to make it through a regular season undefeated, going 16-0 in 2007, but their quest for a perfect season ended with a 17-14 defeat against the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII.ย
New England had the NFL's best record last season at 14-2 and won the franchise's fifth Super Bowl title by defeating the Atlanta Falcons 34-28 in overtime after erasing a 25-point third-quarter deficit.ย
