Giancarlo Stanton Trade Rumors: Multiple Teams Reportedly Interested in Star OF

Mike ChiariJul 13, 2017

Multiple teams have expressed interest in acquiring Miami Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.

Rosenthal added that any potential deal would require Stanton to waive his full no-trade clause.

Per Spotrac, Stanton signed a 13-year, $325 million contract with the Marlins in 2014, though he can opt out any season after 2020.

Rosenthal reported that the Marlins intend to purge their roster but that getting a team to take on Stanton's entire contract could be a challenge.

The 27-year-old slugger is enjoying a resurgent season after a pair of injury-plagued campaigns.

Stanton is hitting .277 with a National League-leading 26 home runs to go along with 58 RBI and 60 runs scored.

The four-time All-Star hit 27 homers in both 2015 and 2016 but sat out a combined 131 games over those two years.

Even so, Stanton has never hit fewer than 22 home runs in a single season, and he already has three 30-homer seasons on his resume with another on the horizon.

The Marlins are 10.5 games out in the NL East at 41-46, and with owner Jeffrey Loria set to sell the team soon, Stanton's contract could be viewed as an albatross by the future ownership group.
