2017 Wimbledon Odds: Roger Federer, Petra Kvitova Tournament Betting Favorites
Two of the most successful active tennis players at the All England Club head into this year's Wimbledon tournament as the favorites to win it again. But both of them will try to capture the championship despite not being the top seed.
On the gentlemen's side, seven-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer is seeded third for the second year in a row, yet he is listed as +200 chalk (bet $100 to win $200) to take home the title for the eighth time at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.
For the ladies, two-time champ Petra Kvitova (2011 and 2014) is a +500 favorite to win her third title as the No. 11 seed over +550 second choice and No. 3 seed Karolina Pliskova.

However, Venus Williams has won Wimbledon five times (2000, 2001, 2005, 2007 and 2008), which helps explain why she is the +1200 fourth choice to win her sixth title even though she is currently ranked 11th in the world. Venus' sister, Serena, would have been the favorite and top seed as a seven-time winner, but she is skipping the tournament as she is pregnant with her first child.
Serena and Andy Murray are the defending singles champions, with the latter listed as the +350 second choice among the men behind Federer. Meanwhile, Venus was just found at fault as the driver in a car accident on June 9 that killed a 78-year-old man, who was a passenger in the other vehicle. Her publicist confirmed Friday she will play in the Grand Slam, according to the Associated Press (h/t Tennis).
Other former men's winners who could be worth betting in addition to Murray (who also won in 2013) include fourth-seeded Rafael Nadal (+400) and second-seeded Novak Djokovic (+600).
Nadal is a two-time winner (2008 and 2010), while Djokovic has taken home three titles (2011, 2014 and 2015). Either Federer, Nadal, Djokovic or Murray has won Wimbledon for each of the past 14 years. That justifies them being the top four choices.
Besides the Williams sisters and Kvitova, Marion Bartoli is the only other woman to win Wimbledon over the past decade. Bartoli won it in 2013 and retired later that year.
Besides Kvitova, Pliskova and Williams, sixth-seeded Johanna Konta of Great Britain (+1200) and 14th-seeded Garbine Muguruza (+900) are also among the favorites for the ladies. Top-seeded Angelique Kerber is further down the betting board at +1400.
