Liverpool Transfer News: Andrew Robertson Interest Amid Alberto Moreno Rumours
Liverpool are reportedly in the hunt to sign Hull City left-back Andrew Robertson if they find a buyer for Alberto Moreno this summer.
According to Simon Jones of the Daily Mail, the Tigers are seeking £8 million for the Scotland international following their relegation from the Premier League, although West Ham United, Burnley and Newcastle United are also interested.
England midfielder James Milner spent the 2016-17 campaign as a makeshift left-back under manager Jurgen Klopp, who will surely strengthen with a more natural reinforcement if the right opportunity arose.
The Mirror's David Anderson recently reported interest in Robertson coming from other top-flight teams, adding a sense of urgency to the deal:
Moreno became an outcast at Anfield last season and was firmly sidelined as Liverpool's secondary option at left-back after Milner established himself as a far more reliable figure in defence, little experience there or not.
Sky Sports reported earlier in June that Liverpool had rejected an £11 million offer for Moreno from Serie A giants Napoli, with the Merseysiders said to be holding out for £15 million if they're to cash in.
The Spaniard arrived at the club three years ago following a £12 million move from La Liga outfit Sevilla, who are said to be among his admirers as they seek out a potential reunion.
FIFA YouTuber Bateson87 recently spoke of Liverpool's need to recruit a new left-back as a matter of priority, having seen the position as something of a problem area long before Moreno's arrival:
Club icon and academy coach Steven Gerrard recently praised Milner for his work in an unnatural role but told BT Sport signing a left-back should be among Klopp's chief concerns this summer (h/t Irish Independent's Samuel Lovett):
“Hopefully we can get the two or three big pieces of the jigsaw that are missing and I'm really confident that Liverpool can keep moving forward and there will be success just around the corner."
“I think we need someone in the left-back position, James [Milner] has done a fantastic job out there, but it would be nice to have another option out there as well."
“And maybe one more attacking player to give some more firepower and help unlock the defences that are really narrow and compact. I don't think we need major reconstruction, I think it's just a couple of pieces of the jigsaw left and I'm really happy with where we are at the moment.”
Liverpool will make their return to the UEFA Champions League this summer and need to beef up their squad but also ensure they're continuing to improve their starting options if they're to challenge for silverware.
Hull's relegation means Robertson may be available for a lower price, but one might question whether he is of the pedigree Liverpool should have in their sights if they're to evolve in time for 2017-18.
