Knicks Rumors: Isiah Thomas Reportedly 'Dark Horse' to Become Team President

Mike ChiariJun 29, 2017

Frank Isola of the New York Daily News reported Thursday that a source close to the New York Knicks said Isiah Thomas is a "dark-horse candidate" to be the team's next president.

Thomas previously served as the Knicks' president of basketball operations from 2003 until 2008.

The Knicks are in search of a new team president after mutually parting ways with Phil Jackson on Wednesday.

New York lost at least 50 games in all three of Jackson's full seasons at the helm, and it has not reached the playoffs since 2012-13.

During Thomas' five-year run as Knicks team president, New York made the playoffs only once and never had a winning season.

Thomas was also Knicks head coach in 2006-07 and 2007-08, posting an overall record of 56-108.

In 2007, former Knicks executive Anucha Browne Sanders was awarded $11.6 million in punitive damages after a sexual harassment lawsuit against Thomas.

Thomas served as the head coach at Florida International University from 2009 through 2012 before returning to an executive position and becoming president of the WNBA's New York Liberty in 2015.

The 56-year-old Thomas was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame as a player in 2000 due to a 13-year NBA career with the Detroit Pistons that saw him make 12 All-Star teams and win two NBA championships.
