Anthony Martial Denies Rumours He Will Leave Manchester United Amid Arsenal Talk

Christopher SimpsonJun 28, 2017

Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has shut down rumours linking him with a move to Arsenal this summer, branding them "false."

The Frenchman took to Twitter to put an end to the speculation:

Per Metro's Sean Kearns, Martial has been linked with a £40 million move to the Emirates Stadium this summer as United look to bring in more firepower.

Per RMC Sports' Mohamed Bouhafsi (h/t sports journalist Adam Joseph), Martial appears to be content in the knowledge he'll be staying put at United:

Martial scored 17 goals in an impressive debut season at Old Trafford, but he struggled to kick on last year and netted just eight in all competitions.

Nevertheless, football writer Liam Canning believes it would be a mistake to part with him:

Indeed, the forward is still only 21, and it's clear he has tremendous potential, so to allow him to join a rival—even for a substantial fee—would be a misstep.

Martial is an electric player who can bring pace and energy in the final third, and his impressive dribbling and composed finishing make him a real threat to opposition defences.

According to Squawka, despite his issues with consistency and playing more than 1,000 fewer Premier League minutes last year than in his first season, he improved his creative output by providing six assists, up from four.

He did so in part by creating more chances per 90 minutes, and it will be an encouraging sign for United if that improves once again next season.

Manager Jose Mourinho is yet to get the best out of the France international on a weekly basis, but he can be a phenomenal player at United if given the chance, provided he's willing to put the work in on his end.

He warrants at least another year to prove himself, and it seems he'll have that opportunity.
