Projecting Odds for Carmella and Every Woman's Chances of Winning MITB Rematch

Aaron BowerJun 23, 2017

Controversy reigned supreme Sunday at WWE Money in the Bank, when the company took the controversial step of having James Ellsworth help Carmella win the coveted briefcase.

The backlash to that booking decision was immediate and intense, with some upset that a man claimed the briefcase in the first-ever women's Money in the Bank match.

That led WWE to announce a rematch for Tuesday on SmackDown Live, wherein all five participants will again do battle to be crowned Ms. Money in the Bank.

Can Carmella win the briefcase once again, or will one of her challengers take it this time?

Here's a look at some projected odds for all five women, trying to gauge who is the favorite and who are the outsiders.

Natalya

1 of 5

Natalya's heel turn at the end of last year looked to be a wise move to get her career back on track on SmackDown Live.

However, she hasn't been able to replicate that early momentum and become a force to be reckoned with on Tuesday nights.

That's why she's probably the outsider for this rematch on Tuesday night.

Where she goes from here is anyone's guess. But don't bank on her being the one with the briefcase, threatening to shake up the women's division.

Her odds? 10-1.

Tamina

2 of 5

Tamina's arrival on SmackDown Live in April was heralded as a pretty big thing by commissioner Shane McMahon.

She was supposed to come in and tear through the women's division, but that just hasn't happened.

That's why it's tough to imagine her winning the Money in the Bank briefcase on Tuesday night.

It would be wiser for Tamina to build up a head of steam away from the main event spotlight and slowly establish herself as a credible force who looks a genuine threat to the big names such as Charlotte Flair and Naomi.

Don't bank on her being the one who holds the briefcase aloft come Tuesday night. Her projected odds are around 9-1.

Becky Lynch

3 of 5

When projecting the favorites and outsiders for this Money in the Bank rematch, it's difficult to work out where to put Becky Lynch.

She's probably not as likely to win as Carmella or Charlotte Flair, for example, but she's in front of the two women previously listed in Tamina and Natalya.

Lynch would be a popular choice to win the briefcase with many fans, not least because there's always a sense she's being underutilized on SmackDown Live.

But whether she can overcome the odds remains to be seen.

Speaking of odds, she's 7-1 to win this bout.

Charlotte Flair

4 of 5

With the door left open for the four other women to take the Money in the Bank briefcase from Carmella, some look more likely to win than others.

And Charlotte Flair has to be the leading candidate to deny the Princess of Staten Island.

Although she's had plenty of championship reigns in recent times and the concept of Money in the Bank is about establishing a new heir to the throne, Charlotte is starting afresh on SmackDown Live.

She should be in the title picture sooner rather than later, and her winning the briefcase would be a smart move if the company decides Carmella isn't the right choice after all.

Her odds stand at 4-1 for victory on Tuesday.

Carmella

5 of 5

Given how she held the briefcase—rightly or wrongly—as recently as a few days ago, it would be foolish to put Carmella down as anything other than the favorite for Tuesday's rematch.

To her credit, Carmella told a great story on the microphone on the most recent edition of SmackDown, insisting nobody gave her a chance of victory when she was the final pick in last summer's WWE draft and that she technically didn't break any rules.

And this is a golden opportunity for WWE to correct Sunday's booking decision and have her win the briefcase fair and square and establish herself as a genuine threat to Naomi and the entire SmackDown Live women's division.

Get rid of James Ellsworth early in the match, have him removed by the officials and let Carmella win as she should have done on Sunday.

She's the 2-1 favorite.
