Nick Young, Golden State Warriors Reportedly Agree to 1-Year Contract

Adam WellsJul 5, 2017

After spending four seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, Nick Young has reportedly agreed to a free-agent deal with the Golden State Warriors

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Young and the Dubs agreed to a one-year, $5.2 million contract.

Warriors star Kevin Durant, poked fun at his new teammate on Twitter:

Young is coming off one of his best seasons in the NBA. He started a career-high 60 games for the Lakers while averaging 13.2 points and 2.3 rebounds per game, and his 40.4 percent three-point shooting percentage was the second-best mark of his career.

According to Basketball-Reference.com, Young was one of six players last season to hit at least 40 percent of his triples while averaging at least seven three-point attempts per game.

During the All-Star break in February, Young credited his successful season to first-year Lakers head coach Luke Walton giving him an opportunity to play.

"With having a coach behind me, I don't have to look over my shoulder or worry about coming out," he said, via the Orange County Register. "That plays a major part. It messes up with your whole cycle when you have a coach who harps on everything you do and talks so down on you. It was tough."

In Golden State, Young is heading into a situation with a new coach in Steve Kerr, who may want to take advantage of his skills in a different way.

The Warriors are an interesting fit for Young and could bring out the best in him. Their collective three-point shooting ability will ensure Young has plenty of open opportunities from beyond the arc, as defenses may often lose track of him. Young won't be able to get away with some of the more eccentric aspects of his game, either.

Young will be a specialist off the bench behind a starting unit loaded with superstars in Durant, Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson, along with elite sixth man Andre Iguodala

After JaVale McGee became a great role player off the bench for the Warriors this past season, the same could very well happen for Young in 2017-18.
