Novak Djokovic Considering Break from Tennis After French Open Loss

Adam WellsJun 7, 2017

Following a straight-set loss to Dominic Thiem in the quarterfinals at the 2017 French Open on Wednesday, Novak Djokovic admitted he may want to take a break from tennis.

Per freelance journalist Carole Bouchard, Djokovic told reporters he's "thinking about many things right now" after being asked about a possible sabbatical from the sport before adding "I have responsibilities" to fulfill.

As Thiem was ousting Djokovic 7-6 (5), 6-3, 6-0, the world No. 2's performance was roundly criticized. The Guardian's Jacob Steinberg wrote Djokovic "tanked" the final set, and the same report noted John McEnroe said on the ESPN broadcast "it looks like he [Djokovic] doesn't want to be on the court."

Per SportsCenter on Twitter, this marks the first time Djokovic has a lost a set in a major 6-0 since 2005 when he was 18 years old.

Djokovic, who was the defending French Open champion, will fall to No. 3 in the world rankings after his loss, per Steinberg. The 30-year-old has just one singles title in eight events this year after winning at least seven titles in each of the past four years.
