Markelle Fultz Reportedly to Meet With Celtics Monday Ahead of 2017 NBA Draft
Former Washington Huskies guard Markelle Fultz will meet with the Boston Celtics on Monday in advance of the 2017 NBA draft, according to ESPN.com's Jeff Goodman.ย
Citing sources, The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski reported Fultz will work out for the Celtics on Tuesday at the team's practice facility and undergo a physical at some point during his two-day visit. ย
The Celtics are widely expected to take Fultz, 19, first overall on June 22.ย
On May 30,ย Goodmanย reported Fultz and Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge "had multiple conversations" after Boston won the rights to the top pick in the draft lottery.ย
"I've talked to Danny a few times, and they want to get me to come out there for a visit," Fultz said. "They just want to get a chance to know me better as a person.
"I want to be the No. 1 pick really bad. It's been a dream of mine since I was a little kid, and I feel like I would fit well in Boston."
Even before Boston won the No. 1 overall pick, Fultz expressed interest in playing alongside fellow Washington product Isaiah Thomas in the Celtics' backcourt.ย
"I've talked to him a lot," Fultz said, perย Sports Illustrated'sย Andrew Sharp. "We always talk about the opportunity. That would be the craziest backcourt. The way he scores, the way I can pass, and the way I can scoreโฆ we can switch between the 1 and 2."
In his latest mock draft released Friday, Bleacher Report'sย Jonathan Wassermanย projected Fultz to the Celtics at No. 1 overall, noting they will "value the flexibility" he brings to the floor.ย
