Kurt Angle's Ideal WWE Opponents for Possible in-Ring Return

WWE legend and Raw general manager Kurt Angle said last week that he believes he will make an eventual return to in-ring action at an unspecified point in the future.

"I don't know when, but I will wrestle again. It's true!" he posted on Facebook.

In March, Triple H also left the door open for a possible return for Angle in an interview with ESPN (h/t WrestlingInc.com), allowing the WWE Universe to start creating dream matches if the former world champion were to make a return to the ring.

Here are the best possible opponents for Angle if—or when—he does make his comeback:

Triple H

The key to a successful return to action for Angle would be an intriguing storyline, and the natural progression would be for the Raw GM to have a confrontation with commissioner Stephanie McMahon.

McMahon has played the ultimate heel over the last few months, but she has not been seen since taking a bump through a table at WrestleMania. During Monday's episode of Raw, she was mentioned again.

Now the verbal confrontations can begin between McMahon and Angle.

Just as McMahon and Mick Foley had issues that led to his dismissal, the same story can be booked with Angle, but this time it would lead to a battle against Triple H when he defends his wife.

While Angle could be better utilized against a fresh face, the story between Triple H and the Raw GM is already built in.

AJ Styles

Wrestling fans may have seen AJ Styles go head-to-head against Angle before in Impact Wrestling, but the storyline and matches would be so fresh and different that it wouldn't matter.

The storyline would work perfectly if Angle—as a representative of Raw—came face-to-face with SmackDown's Face That Runs The Place. With an inter-promotional event like SummerSlam or Survivor Series as the backdrop, the two men could have a verbal battle before fighting each other for the pride of their brand.

Not only would this storyline allow Styles to get the victory over a legend who could be experiencing enough ring rust to cost him the match, but it also protects Angle when he returns to a more long-term in-ring career on the Raw brand.

Samoa Joe

If WWE officials are dead set on giving Angle a marquee victory in his first match back, the perfect opponent would be Samoa Joe. As one of the top heels on Raw and a long-time rival of the Raw GM, the chance to fight again is perfect.

Samoa Joe and Angle had some of the best matches in Impact Wrestling history. They were involved in arguably the company's greatest storyline and put on several of the most memorable bouts in recent memory.

Now it's time to recreate that magic in WWE.

From an in-ring perspective, the two men are familiar with each other, making the resulting match safer for Angle.

On the other hand, Samoa Joe and Angle know how to bring the best out of each other in a highly physical battle that would be the perfect showcase for a return feud.
