Robert Lewandowski Is 'Ready to Play' vs. Real Madrid After Shoulder Injury
Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski is reportedly "ready to play" in the second leg of his side's UEFA Champions League quarter-final second-leg meeting with Real Madrid on Tuesday after recovering from a shoulder injury.
The Poland international missed last Wednesday's first leg as Der FCB surrendered a 1-0 lead to lose 2-1 at the Allianz Arena, but Lewandowski has told German newspaper Bild (h/t AS' Carlos Forjanes): "I'm ready to play."
Artuto Vidal put Bayern ahead in Bavaria before Javi Martinez's red card reduced the Germans to 10 men, and a Cristiano Ronaldo brace put Real in the driver's seat for a home second leg.
German outlet DW Sports recently provided footage of Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge applauding the club's medical staff for preparing Lewandowski, as well as defenders Mats Hummels and Jerome Boateng, for Tuesday's fixture:
As important as Lewandowski is to manager Carlo Ancelotti, the fitness of Hummels and Boateng is perhaps Bayern's greater concern at present considering Martinez will be suspended for the away trip following his red card.
Meanwhile, the official Champions League Twitter account hailed Lewandowski's prolific touch for Der FCB this season, which has seen the 28-year-old net a career-high total in front of goal:
Thomas Muller deputised in attack for the Bundesliga champions last Wednesday, a tactic that seemingly worked to good effect until the hosts were reduced to 10 men, at which point Real took control of the clash.
Lewandowski's absence was again made all too obvious as Bayern were stifled to a 0-0 draw at Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday, although Los Blancos midfielder Casemiro expects danger from all over the park, per ESPN FC's Dermot Corrigan:
The Pole has been an ever-present force for Ancelotti and has appeared in almost every Bayern game this term, scoring in 14 of the 28 Bundesliga matches in which he's appeared.
Bayern face a mountainous task in attempting to turn a 2-1 deficit in their favour at the Santiago Bernabeu, but with Lewandowski back fit, the scale of that challenge has become that much more manageable.
