Sheamus Says Today's WWE Is Better Than Attitude Era
In an interview released Thursday, WWE Superstar Sheamus expressed his belief that the current WWE is better than the beloved Attitude Era.
According to Tom Fordy of the Sun, the Celtic Warrior believes WWE's in-ring product blows away what was presented during the Attitude Era:
"The level of athleticism has evolved so much since we watched as kids. The athletes that WWE has now are far superior to anything that we had the 1980s or the 1990s. You look back at the Attitude Era and the level of entertainment we put in the ring now. The Attitude Era doesn't even come close. I'm not afraid to say that either. You watch some of the stuff Cesaro does in the ring; with his size, the way he moves around the ring, the moves he hits, the way he picks up guys twice his size. It's just a different level.
"
Sheamus is currently teaming with Cesaro, and they will face the Hardy Boyz for the Raw Tag Team Championships at Payback.
The Attitude Era took place in the late 1990s and early 2000s, and it is still revered by wrestling fans to this day.
In addition to drawing massive ratings, the Attitude Era produced some of the top stars in WWE history, including "Stone Cold" Steve Austin and The Rock.
While the personalities were huge and the storylines were often entertaining, there were times when the Attitude Era lacked match quality.
That isn't often the case currently due to the top-level athletes in WWE and the fact that many of its biggest stars came from the independent scene where wrestling tends to be of the greatest importance.
