Foley's daughter, Noelle, reacted to the news on Twitter:
McMahon's decision comes a week after she instructed Foley to fire a member of the Raw roster. Foley chose to fire McMahon, which drew the ire of her and her husband, Triple H:
Foley's departure from WWE isn't a huge surprise.
He posted on Facebook in February that he had been cleared to undergo surgery on his hip and would require a lengthy period of time for his recovery. Being fired as GM will presumably give Foley an opportunity to have the procedure.
In addition, PWInsider's Mike Johnson said on The Taz Show (h/t With Spandex's Bill Hanstock) that Kurt Angle may take over as Raw's GM shortly after WrestleMania 33.
Angle will be inducted into WWE's Hall of Fame March 31, two nights before WrestleMania:
By waiting until after WrestleMania to have Angle return to WWE programming, the company wouldn't ruin the excitement for many fans of seeing him for the first time at his Hall of Fame induction.
From a storyline perspective, McMahon and Triple H could use this week's edition of Raw and the go-home show before WrestleMania to consider GM candidates to replace Foley before selecting Angle or another star after The Showcase of the Immortals.
