NHL Picks for Oct. 10

----- -----------Correspondent IOctober 10, 2009

On my debut, I managed to squeak out a win.

Here are my picks for the day and why:

Islanders (0-0-2) vs. Bruins (1-2-0)

The champions for the East are having a slow start, but that doesn't mean that this trend will go on forever. The Bruins have too much depth in the all their lines, and Tim Thomas, despite his age, is bound to find his game.

The Islanders, despite having 2009's No. 1 overall draft pick in John Tavares, couldn't muster up a win against Ottawa, which leads me to believe the same result will happen here. Boston takes this one.

Pittsburgh (3-1-6) vs. Toronto (0-2-1)

Pittsburgh is starting to wake up despite a humiliating loss to the unowned Coyotes. Despite Ron Wilson's big talk, the Maple Leafs haven't been able to muster up a regulation win. That won't happen against Crosby, Malkin, and Fleury. Toronto loses this one as Pittsburgh wins by a wide margin.

Atlanta (2-0-0) vs. Ottawa (2-1-0)

This one really is kind of a coin toss for me. On one hand, Alfredsson, Spezza, Kovalev, and Co. should be able to shut down the Thrashers here. Advantage Ottawa.

Anaheim (1-1-1) vs. Philadelphia (3-1-0)

The Flyers are way too strong for me to go against them, despite Anaheim's surprising streak in the playoffs. I think Philly has this one.

New Jersey (1-2-0) vs. Florida (1-2-0)

Florida, this is a coin toss as well, but again I take Florida.

Washington (2-1-1) vs. Detroit (1-2-0)

My money is on Ovechkin scoring two goals, but Detroit walks away with two points.

The Rest of My Picks

Tampa Bay
Los Angeles
Phoenix (sold out crowd, beating the Penguins; this one is theirs)
San Jose
