Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson defeated Enzo Amore and Big Cass on Sunday night at WWE Fastlane to retain the Raw Tag Team Championships.

With Big Cass neutralized along the ringside barricade, Anderson capitalized and kicked Enzo in the head as he attempted to re-enter the ring. The referee counted to three despite Enzo getting his foot on the rope.

WWE shared a photo of the champions holding the tag titles:

The A.V. Club's LaToya Ferguson believes continuing the feud would help Enzo and Big Cass over the long term:

Matt Hardy, however, offered this cryptic tweet:

Gallows and Anderson defeated Cesaro and Sheamus at the Royal Rumble to win the titles. After successfully defending the belts against them, Gallows and Anderson were in need of new challengers.

Cesaro and Sheamus were given one more opportunity, though, as they were placed in a No. 1 contenders' match against Enzo and Cass.

Cass managed to back up Enzo's talk in the ring, which earned the duo a title shot against a team they have had several run-ins with in recent months.

The issues between the two sides began during the summer when Enzo and Cass backed John Cena during his feud against The Club.

Enzo, Cass and Cena defeated Gallows, Anderson and AJ Styles in a six-man tag team match at Battleground, but the teams never strayed far from each other in Raw's competitive tag division.

Gallows and Anderson debuted on WWE's main roster within one week of Enzo and Cass last year, which is a big reason they have been at odds.

Enzo and Cass appeared on Raw the night after WrestleMania 32, while Gallows and Anderson jumped The Usos one week later and made it clear that they intended to take WWE by storm after dominating in Japan.

Although it took Gallows and Anderson several months until they finally reached the pinnacle of tag team wrestling in WWE, they managed to get there and have seemingly hit their stride in terms of finding their characters and being aggressive.

Playing the role of the hated heel is made much easier by feuding with Enzo and Cass since they are among the most popular acts in the entire company.

That hasn't always led to in-ring success, but Enzo and Cass regularly elicit a big reaction due to their mic work and the over-the-top nature of their gimmick.

Sunday represented their best chance yet to become champions in WWE, but they once again fell short of their goal.

While Fastlane represented a setback for Enzo and Cass, the unsettled nature of Raw's tag division suggests another title shot could be on the horizon at WrestleMania.
