Knicks Coach Jeff Hornacek Turns Away as Carmelo Anthony Calls His Own Number

Andrew GouldJan 3, 2017

Head coach Jeff Hornacek couldn't hide his frustration during the New York Knicks' fifth straight loss.

During Monday night's 115-103 loss to the Orlando Magic, Carmelo Anthony called for a clear-out and missed a contested jumper. Disappointed in the isolation play, Hornacek turned his back to his player and walked toward his team's bench.

Anthony has fallen into bad habits, netting a subpar 36.1 field-goal percentage (30-of-83) during their five-game rough patch. While Hornacek's exasperated reaction to his ill-advised shot stood out, defense is the bigger problem for a club that has relinquished 108.5 points per game.

"I don't think our guys aren't trying. Maybe we're just not capable of it. I don't know," Hornacek said after Monday's loss, per ESPN.com's Ian Begley. "That's what we're going to have to figure out. Maybe you have to play some of these other guys."

After falling to 16-18, the Knicks no longer possess a playoff spot.
