Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott Win Thanksgiving Galloping Gobbler Award 2016

Joseph ZuckerNov 24, 2016

A pair of rookies etched their names onto the Galloping Gobbler Thursday, as Ezekiel Elliott and Dak Prescott shared the honor following the Dallas Cowboys' 31-26 win over the Washington Redskins.

Prescott finished the game 17-of-24 for 195 yards and a touchdown through the air and ran for 39 yards and a touchdown on eight carries. Elliott had 120 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns.

Pro Football Focus graded them the Cowboys' top two offensive players:

Prescott and Elliott are the first teammates to win the Galloping Gobbler, and Robert Griffin III in 2012 was the last rookie to take home the award.

As he accepted the award, Elliott provided a nice fashion statement for fans who are dealing with their food hangover on Thanksgiving, courtesy of Sports Illustrated:

The former Ohio State Buckeyes star was invaluable in the second half as Dallas held onto its lead. Washington scored 20 points in the fourth quarter, and without Elliott in the backfield, the Cowboys' 11-point lead entering the final frame almost certainly would have evaporated.

Prescott did his part as well, accounting for one of Dallas' two touchdowns in the final quarter. The NFL shared a replay of his six-yard scoring run with 10:49 left in the game:

The Cowboys didn't even play particularly well, getting outgained 505-353 and allowing the Redskins to go 8-of-15 on third down and 2-of-2 on fourth down. The combination of Prescott and Elliott, however, can paper over a lot of the team's cracks on defense.

Thursday's victory was the 10th in a row for Dallas, and the team continues to keep the Seattle Seahawks at bay for the top seed in the NFC. So long as Prescott and Elliott stay healthy, the Cowboys remain poised for a deep playoff run.
