Smith Active vs. Dolphins

The 49ers announced that Smith is available to play in Week 12 against Miami.

Smith Has Failed to Be Impact Signing 49ers Hoped for

Smith has struggled to make a consistent impact since the 49ers signed him to a five-year, $40 million contract in 2015. He caught 33 passes for 663 yards and four touchdowns last season and has 17 grabs for 243 yards and two touchdowns in 2016.

While some of his lackluster production is due to poor quarterback play, the Niners were expecting more than the occasional flash of his big-play ability.

Durability remains one of his strong traits. Before last week, the 27-year-old Maryland product hadn't missed a regular-season game since the Baltimore Ravens selected him in the second round of the 2011 draft. He did fight through a back injury earlier in the current campaign, though.

If he's limited against the Dolphins, Jeremy Kerley and Quinton Patton would take on even more responsibility as the team's top two targets. Rod Streater and Aaron Burbridge could also see the field more often for the time being.
