Updates on Treadwell's Playing Status
Sunday, Dec. 11
Treadwell was ruled out for the remainder of Sunday's contest with his injury, per the Vikings.
The 21-year-old has made a minimal impact in his rookie season, catching one pass for 15 yards. The No. 23 overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft was expected to make a major impact with Minnesota this season, but instead he's been a forgotten man in the team's offense.
In September, head coach Mike Zimmer commented on Treadwell's role after the rookie played just two snaps in the team's first three games.
"He has to continue to do better in practice," Zimmer told Conor Orr of NFL.com. "He's working, just biding his time until he gets an opportunity like how [Stefon] Diggs was last year. I still think he's thinking about the number of steps to take on each route and things like that, being at the right depth."
While Treadwell has failed to make a splash in his rookie season, the Vikings can't exactly afford to lose any potential offensive playmakers. After starting 5-0 this season, the team has gone 1-6 and finds itself fighting for its playoff lives.
Nonetheless, Treadwell's injury shouldn't affect the depth chart at wide receiver. Stefon Diggs, Adam Thielen and Cordarrelle Patterson will remain the team's top targets at the position, with tight end Kyle Rudolph and running back Matt Asiata also making an impact in the passing game.
