10 Current Sports Stars Wearing Fashion You Can't Pull Off

Chris RolingNov 1, 2016

These athletes aren't wearing Halloween costumes...

Given the way fashion has trended in the sporting world lately, it's hard to tell the difference between a star player rocking a Halloween costume or what they consider "normal" attire.

Make no mistake, the sporting realm fully embraced Halloween in epic fashion.

Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman even rocked a costume at the podium right out of Harry Potter and got a shoutout from its author, J.K. Rowling:

But these guys below? Those aren't costumes, folks—they're just recent examples of what passes as style these days.

We're talking kilts, weird sweaters and some stuff that doesn't have a classification.

It's the Halloween season, but these athletes weren't wearing costumes.

D'Angelo Russell

When Los Angeles Lakers guard D'Angelo Russell isn't getting his phone stolen and having videos he creepily recorded in secret getting leaked, he's rocking what passes as...style?

Jeans with holes in them aren't anything new. Neither is the whole leave-enough-buttons-undone-to-show-some-chest approach.

In tandem? Not a good look. That's probably an expensive outfit, so the joke's on the rest of us, but that doesn't change the fact it looks like Russell was trying to look like he has a box for a house.

Victor Oladipo

This guy got traded to an arguably bigger market, or at least team, and used the new spotlight as a fashion runway right out the gates.

What's worse, the duster coat or the Undertaker hat? Oklahoma City Thunder guard Victor Oladipo doesn't shy away from the same styles after games, either:

Oladipo is his own man, but he won't shake comparisons to Russell Westbrook over this one anytime soon.

The odds seem strong Oladipo will treat the entire season like Halloween.

Cam Newton

Shocker, right?

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has been the lead man when it comes to odd styles in the NFL. He's been all over the place this year, though his near-Halloween outfit steals the show here.

What is that even? Is he Jim Carrey from The Mask? And the shoes look like chunks of cheese.

Who cares if this is an expensive outfit? Newton looked like Halloween come early, but the scariest part about it? This wasn't a costume.

Aaron Gordon

Orlando Magic forward Aaron Gordon is one of the more exciting dunkers in the Association right now.

His attire game has some catching up to do.

Maybe this one doesn't look so bad at first glance, but the dude's shirt looks like a rug you'd step on at a rest stop. Gordon, at least, has plenty of time to evolve his style game.

T.J. Ward

What is it with NFL defensive backs?

Guys like Darrelle Revis have had some odd styles over the years, but apparently Denver Broncos safety T.J. Ward is here to take the mantle now.

Ward seems to enjoy the awkward styles as of late, from the tie-dye to the shiny jackets:

Ward might look like it's Halloween every time he leaves the house.

Nobody tell him.

Iman Shumpert

This is...something.

There's not a whole lot to say about this one. Cleveland Cavaliers guard Iman Shumpert seems to want to get his Ezekiel Elliott on—and does with this getup.

Oh, and those pants. They're about two sizes too small. Well, so is the shirt. Dude looks like one of the villains in Space Jam after drinking Jordan's juice.

Victor Cruz

Get this—New York Giants wideout Victor Cruz has received acclaim for his fashion sense.

Whew, right? It's not all bad with Cruz, but man, he's doing his best polar bear impression in the above picture, and it's not a good look.

Considered a trendsetter in the world of sporting fashion, Cruz isn't above these other guys when it comes to mishaps around the holidays.

Jabaal Sheard

Hey, look, it's Tom Brady! And there's...Tom Brady?

New England Patriots defensive end Jabaal Sheard wanted to dress up as his favorite quarterback.

He failed.

Kidding aside, Sheard wanted to celebrate the return of his quarterback. However, he acted like everyone would forget where to look to see the name and number.

Cam Newton II

What, thought we were done with Newton?

Come on now. A guy can't rock the above and get away with it. The only thing worse than double-handing a small mug of tea is doing so dressed like he's at a sitdown at the picnic table in Wonderland.

Like his play on the field, Newton leaves us wondering what in the world comes next.

Russell Westbrook

Yep, that's a kilt.

Thunder guard Russell Westbrook seems like he's in a competition with Newton at this point to see who can get the craziest with outfits before and after the game.

This contest isn't exclusive to the Halloween season by any means, as much as we wish we could say Westbrook rocking a skirt was a prank for the holidays.

Who wins the Westbrook-Newton war remains up to the fans to decide.
