Former Penn State Football Player Brent Wilkerson Sentenced for Indecent Assault

Former Penn State Nittany Lions tight end Brent Wilkerson was sentenced to five years' probation and will register as a sex offender after pleading guilty to indecent assault.

According to the Associated Press, Wilkerson received his sentence Tuesday in a Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, court. He was initially charged with indecent assault and harassment March 8 following a February incident in which he fondled a woman after a night at several bars.

The woman told police she was a friend of Wilkerson and drove him home that night. He then fell asleep at her apartment, and she awoke to Wilkerson pulling on her. She requested that he stop, but he continued, grabbing her neck and masturbating.

Police later photographed bruises around the woman's neck.

“I know what I did was wrong,” Wilkerson told police. “I know what I did was wrong. After a couple 'no's' I should have left after the first 'no.'"

Wilkerson later apologized to the woman in a text message.

Penn State suspended Wilkerson from the team in March. He was officially removed from the program in April.

The sentence Tuesday was part of a plea agreement he struck with prosecutors. Wilkerson lives in Maryland and will serve out his probation there. He will be forced to register as a sex offender.
