Barcelona Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Steven N'Zonzi and Yerry Mina

Tom SunderlandOct 16, 2016

Barcelona are reportedly hoping to lure Sevilla midfielder Steven N'Zonzi to the Camp Nou next year as they seek cover for star anchor Sergio Busquets. Meanwhile, the Blaugrana have agreed a deal to sign Colombian Yerry Mina.

Francisco Rico and Ignasi Oliva of Goal reported Barca's interest in N'Zonzi "is real," but Sevilla are eager to agree a new contract with their holding star, who has taken his game to new heights under manager Jorge Sampaoli.

Since Sampaoli's arrival at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium, N'Zonzi has taken root as Sevilla's sole holding midfielder in front of the defence to great effect, much like the position Busquets occupies at the Camp Nou.

Bleacher Report's Tim Collins also recently commented on the versatility this gives Sevilla when it comes to the transition between attack and defence:

The former Stoke City and Blackburn Rovers enforcer moved to Seville in the summer of 2015 for a fee of £7 million, but N'Zonzi's value has risen since then, and his contract contains a €30 million (£27 million) release clause.

Although a defensive midfielder at his core, the 27-year-old has also shown an eye for goal during his career, and the Potters recently celebrated one of his brighter moments at the Bet365 Stadium:

The Sunday People (h/t Sport Witness) recently reported Everton may also be interested in N'Zonzi, while Rico and Oliva mentioned Premier League champions Leicester City failed with a summer move for the Frenchman.

Sky Sports' Spanish expert Guillem Balague confirmed the Foxes' interest over the summer, showing just how widespread the interest in N'Zonzi has been over recent months:

Busquets is considered a critical part of manager Luis Enrique's puzzle, but Barca are lacking in alternatives who can play his role with the same efficacy, and Sevilla may struggle to fend off the Blaugrana's gaze in 2017.

Elsewhere, the uncle and agent of Palmeiras centre-back Mina, Jair Mina, has told Colombian radio station Radio Caracol (h/t ESPN FC's Samuel Marsden) his nephew has signed a pre-agreement to join Barcelona:

"

Yes, a pre-agreement was signed and there's the possibility that the kid goes to Barcelona. It's only a pre-agreement, so there's still the chance that other teams [make an offer], so [a move to Barca] would depend on circumstances and the desire of the player. Other top European teams are interested.

"

Although the move is far from concrete, it would appear the Blaugrana have their hands on a threatening defensive force if all goes to plan, despite the fact he only moved to Palmeiras earlier this year.

The 22-year-old has netted three goals in eight Copa Libertadores appearances this season and recently rescued a 2-2 draw for Colombia with a late header in their meeting against Uruguay last Tuesday.
