Nadal Comments on Injury

Nadal Unable to Shake Wrist Injury

The Spanish star has battled problems with that part of his body most of the year. He was forced to withdraw from the French Open before a third-round match against Marcel Granollers.

That injury also prevented Nadal from playing in Wimbledon and kept him on the shelf until the 2016 Rio Olympics in August. His left wrist was still causing him problems in Brazil, but he was able to reach the semifinals.

Nadal's physical decline has led to him dropping to eighth in the current ATP rankings. Given the problems he's had staying on the court, taking additional time off at the end of the year to prepare for 2017 was probably the best thing for his career.
