Shanghai Rolex Masters 2016: Tuesday Tennis Scores, Results and Updated Schedule
World No. 1 Novak Djokovic was made to work hard against Fabio Fognini at the 2016 Shanghai Rolex Masters on Tuesday but eventually prevailed 6-3, 6-3 over the Italian to book his place in the third round.
The Serbian was some way off his brilliant best and Fognini had his opportunities to force the match to a decider, but he made too many needless errors that Djokovic took full advantage of.
Elsewhere, David Goffin impressed as he came back from a set down to win his first-round match against the in-form Juan Martin del Potro, while Grigor Dimitrov beat 14th seed Richard Gasquet 6-4, 6-4.
Read on for the full results from Tuesday's action, along with a recap of the key events in Shanghai.

Tuesday Recap

It looked as though it would be a routine victory for Djokovic early on as he broke Fognini at the first time of asking, with the Italian double-faulting to hand his opponent a 2-0 lead.
At 4-1 up, the 12-time Grand Slam winner was cruising, but Fognini then stepped up a gear and forced a number of break points on Djokovic's serve as he attempted to get back on level terms.
Djokovic, though, held for 5-2 and then served out to take the first set 6-3.
He got his nose in front in the first game of the second set with a break, but Fognini levelled immediately as he continued to produce some excellent tennis.
The pair traded holds and the second set was in the balance until the Italian's errors began creeping in.
He was broken to love for 4-3 and then completely collapsed, double-faulting twice in a row while serving to stay in the match to hand Djokovic the win, per tennis writer Carole Bouchard:
Del Potro has had an excellent 2016 as he continues his comeback from numerous injuries.
However, No. 11 seed Goffin showed superb resilience to see off the towering Argentinian despite losing the first set 6-4.
Some clinical serving from the Belgian saw him win the second set 6-3 and then hold his nerve for a 7-5 victory in the decider.
Per the New York Times' Ben Rothenberg, early Del Potro exits have been a rarity recently, but Goffin fully deserved to book his place in the second round:
While Goffin took 148 minutes to see off Del Potro, Australia's Nick Kyrgios blew Sam Querrey away in less than an hour to see himself through to the next round.
Fresh from winning the Japan Open last week, Kyrgios made light work of his American opponent on Tuesday, prevailing 6-4, 6-4 to set up a second-round meeting with German Mischa Zverev.
Meanwhile, Feliciano Lopez prevailed in Tuesday's all-Spanish duel with No. 10 seed David Ferrer, the 35-year-old edging his compatriot 7-6(3), 4-6, 7-6(4) in two-and-a-half hours.
