The New Day and Other WWE Superstars Who Should Host 'Saturday Night Live'
The word synergy likely makes anyone who doesn't work in a corporate environment cringe, but using two things to promote each other does benefit everyone in the end.
WWE programming airs on the USA Network, and Saturday Night Live is on NBC. Both networks are under the umbrella of NBC Universal, so they are technically part of the same company.
Considering WWE incorporates a lot of comedy into its shows, it's somewhat surprising more WWE Superstars haven't hosted SNL over the years.
The Rock has hosted a handful of times, and several WWE Superstars have made cameos over the years, but that's about it. Doesn't that seem weird?
Pro wrestlers are natural performers who are used to being in front of crowds every night. You would think Vince McMahon and Lorne Michaels would have seen the potential of cross-promoting many years ago.
This slideshow will look at which Superstars would make great hosts for SNL. For the sake of keeping the list manageable, only people who are currently associated with WWE will be eligible. This isn't meant to rank the people on the list, so pay no attention to the order.
Renee Young
1 of 7Renee Young might not be an actual Superstar, but she's a big part of WWE programming and one of the more personable people in the entire company.
Whether she is hosting Talking Smack or appearing on a pay-per-view panel, Young comes off as comfortable, prepared and, most importantly for SNL, funny.
She studied improv before focusing on her broadcasting career, so she knows the basics of how a sketch comedy show should work. She was also a big part of The JBL and Cole Show, which was basically just a series of short skits every week.
Young's name recognition isn't on the same level as many of WWE's bigger stars, but if we are only talking about who would work best as a guest host, Young is toward the top of the list.
The New Day
2 of 7All of this SNL talk started when Xavier Woods sent out a tweet responding to a post from the show asking who should host this season.
Woods thinks The New Day would be perfect for the job, and he's not wrong. Having three hosts would be a bit unorthodox, but if Tina Fey and Amy Poehler can do it at the same time, why can't three guys?
Woods, Kofi Kingston and Big E are one of the most consistently funny acts in WWE, and they already possess many of the qualities a host must have.
Being able to memorize lines, improvise dialogue and play off one another is what sketch comedy is all about, and New Day do it 52 weeks a year. Even the cast of SNL doesn't have to perform that much.
Triple H
3 of 7Triple H might be working behind-the-scenes these days, but he is still comfortable in front of the camera when he has to make an appearance.
One of Triple H's best qualities throughout his career has been his sense of humor, which was put to good use during his time as a member of Degeneration-X.
In fact, Trips has appeared in what can only be described as sketches countless times throughout the years, with the most famous being the invasion of WCW.
However, the biggest reason Triple H would make a good host is that he has the level of fame needed to justify it. Even people who don't watch wrestling know who Triple H is, even if it's unfortunately from his appearance in Blade 3.
Big Show
4 of 7Big Show has been acting sporadically for many years, and just about every role he has ever taken was in a comedy.
His career in the ring is winding down, so it's time for him to start looking at projects to keep himself busy. If Lorne Michaels ever wanted a giant to host the show, nobody would be better than Paul Wright.
His size would be a big asset because he could realistically portray characters few other people in the world could pull off. However, this also limits him to a certain extent.
Big Show just needs one good role in a movie for the producers of SNL to notice the kind of talent he has and book him as a host. He has even appeared on the show before, so he would be coming into the situation with experience.
Becky Lynch
5 of 7If you follow Becky Lynch on Twitter, you know she is a genuinely funny person. Her love of puns might not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's clear she knows how to channel her sense of humor.
The women's division is full of talented Superstars who would be able to pull off a hosting gig, some of whom are more recognizable than Lynch, but this isn't about who has the most star power.
Lynch picked up a little sketch comedy experience when she appeared on The Edge and Christian Show, but she has never acted outside of the ring.
Then again, Peyton Manning had never acted before he was booked as a host, and the same goes for almost every athlete who has ever appeared on the show.
Lynch might seem like the most unlikely name on this list, but she has the comic timing to pull it off.
Kevin Owens
6 of 7At this moment, few Superstars on the roster are as funny as Kevin Owens. Not only are his promos witty, but the way he talks trash to his opponents is often the most hilarious part of any WWE event.
Owens is just as comfortable cracking jokes as he is cracking skulls, and considering his popularity with the WWE Universe, many would tune in to see how he performed in a different environment.
Owens' comedic skills have been on full display during his segments with Chris Jericho, and considering Y2J is one of the funniest people in wrestling, being able to keep up with him speaks to Owens' talent.
If we are supposed to take KO seriously as one of the company's top champions, WWE needs to start finding things for him to do outside the ring. Hosting SNL would raise his profile.
Chris Jericho
7 of 7WWE fans rarely ever come to a consensus about anything, but one thing we can agree on is Jericho is the funniest person in WWE today.
He somehow manages to be a hated heel who can also make us laugh with a single word. There are professional comedians who would kill to have his comic timing and wit.
In addition to being hilarious, Jericho is well known outside the ring thanks to his band Fozzy, and appearances in TV shows and movies, including a turn on the hugely successful Dancing With the Stars and the much less successful Robot Combat League.
He has also appeared on shows like Whose Line is it Anyway and Hollywood Game Night and in comedy films such as Sharknado 3 and MacGruber.
Of all the names on this list, Jericho is the most likely person to be chosen to host Saturday Night Live, but everyone is going to have their own opinion on the matter.
