Gonzalo Higuain Injury: Juventus Striker out vs. Sevilla Due to Thigh Injury
Juventus star Gonzalo Higuain suffered a setback in his bid to live up to his hefty summer transfer fee, as the Argentina international suffered a thigh injury on Saturday in the 3-0 win over Pescara. He'll miss the vital UEFA Champions League match against Sevilla on Tuesday.
The Bianconeri confirmed Higuain didn't travel to Spain on their official website:
"Gonzalo Higuain will not be on the plane to Spain after sustaining bruising to his left thigh in the final minutes of Saturday’s win over Pescara. The forward’s condition will be monitored closely over the coming days. Medhi Benatia, meanwhile, has not yet fully recovered from a knock to his right knee.
"
Higuain joined the Bianconeri from Napoli during the summer of 2016, costing the Italian champions an astronomical fee of £75.3 million, per Nick Lustig of Sky Sports.
Juventus had good reason for paying such a huge amount of money, as the 28-year-old set a new Serie A record by scoring 36 goals in his final season with the Partenopei.
Here's a look at some his highlights:
Per the Sun's Geoff Sweet, plenty of fans made fun of his physique when he appeared to have gained a lot of weight over the summer, but he soon silenced his critics by scoring the winner in his Serie A debut for Juventus against rivals Fiorentina.
El Pipita has been steadily adding to his tally ever since, playing next to star youngster Paulo Dybala or Mario Mandzukic in attack.

Mandzukic was Dybala's preferred partner during the 2015-16 season, and he's a very solid attacking option in his own right. The Croatia international will be counted on to replace Higuain until the latter returns to fitness.
But with both Dybala and Marko Pjaca currently sidelined, depth is a major issue for Juventus. Manager Massimiliano Allegri will likely opt for a 4-3-3 formation in Sevilla, with Mandzukic flanked by Juan Cuadrado and Alex Sandro. Young starlet Moise Kean might make his Champions League debut as well.
Per Transfermarkt.co.uk, El Pipita's recent injury history is almost spotless, so there is hope this is only a minor setback and not a sign of things to come.
