Jason Terry Comments on Klay Thompson, James Harden, More
Veteran guard Jason Terry is preparing for his 18th NBA season, his first with the Milwaukee Bucks. On Wednesday, the outspoken 39-year-old made some bold claims while speaking with SiriusXM NBA Radio (via JD Shaw of Def Pen).
He threw his two cents into the debate over whether Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors or James Harden of the Houston Rockets is the best shooting guard in the league, and he didn't mince his words in supporting Harden:
"[Thompson's] not leading s***. If he doesn't make shots, how effective is he? Go watch Klay Thompson vs. James Harden from last year and see what [LeBron] James did to him. Every time James got by him, you know who was there? Draymond Green or Andrew Bogut. ... I'm not a Klay Thompson hater. It's just when you put him up against James Harden, there's no comparison.
"
When looking at the numbers, one could argue Terry is right in giving Harden the nod:
| 22.1 | Points Per Game | 29 |
| 2.1 | Assists Per Game | 7.5 |
| 47% | FG % | 43.9% |
| 42.5% | 3P % | 35.9% |
But while Harden is the main man in Houston, Thompson has had to contend with giving up touches to reigning MVP Stephen Curry. He'll soon team up with Kevin Durant as well after the former Oklahoma City Thunder star signed a two-year, $54.2 million deal in July, per Spotrac.
Speaking of Thompson's teammates, Terry wasn't done with his hot takes, stating the guard has a better shot than Curry: "I actually think Klay is a better shooter than Steph. Klay Thompson is amazing. His jump shot is pure. Just pure beauty."
Terry quickly shifted to his new team, the Bucks, whom he signed a one-year, $1.55 million deal with in August, per Spotrac.
As a veteran presence on a young team that features the likes of 21-year-old Jabari Parker, Terry told SiriusXM the player he's been most impressed with is another 21-year-old, Giannis Antetokounmpo:
"Simply put, this kid is a leader. I've been here for three days now, and I can't beat him to the gym. I can't beat him in the morning and I can't beat him at night. Seriously. After the workouts, he's in the film room watching Scottie Pippen, Shawn Marion, and other great forwards. It's amazing to watch a kid like that. It makes you proud. The game is in a great place, and I know when I decide to leave, the league will still be in a good place with players like Giannis.
He'll be an All-Star this year, he'll lead us to the Playoffs, and he's going to be a top-10 player in this game real soon.
"
The athletic Antetokounmpo, who's getting set for his fourth NBA season, is coming off a career year in which he put up 16.9 points, 7.7 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game. The Greek Freak is capable of playing all positions on the floor despite being being 6'11".
Terry's predictions are bold for a team that hasn't put up a winning season since 2009-10. But with the talent Milwaukee has in place, they might not be far-fetched.
