Real Madrid were up against it in their Champions League opener against Sporting Clube de Portugal in the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday night.

Los Blancos are aiming to become the first team to retain their title in the current format, and fell behind in the second half when Bruno Cesar scored the opener for the visitors.

It looked as though Zinedine Zidane's side were heading for an opening day defeat, but up stepped Cristiano Ronaldo to score in the 89th minute:

And to add to the drama, Alvaro Morata rescued all three points with a stoppage-time header to win the match 2-1.

Brilliant scenes in the opening matchday of the Champions League.
