Novak Djokovic def. Gael Monfils, 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2

Novak Djokovic advanced to the U.S. Open men's final on Friday after a bizarre semifinal against Gael Monfils.

Djokovic and Monfils both suffered from fatigue on a hot day inside Arthur Ashe Stadium, but that was the least weird thing that occurred over the span of three hours.

The top-seeded man in the world burst out to an early lead, and he appeared to have the first set in the bag, but strange tactics from Monfils threw a wrench in his approach. The Frenchman appeared to be giving up the first set, but it took a few extra games for Djokovic to finish it off.

Djokovic cruised to a win in the second set, but Monfils rallied back for an unexpected third-set victory. Monfils appeared to be giving little effort before he exploded to life in the third set.

As fatigue set in in humid New York City, Djokovic took over. He used a winner up the middle of the court to advance to the championship match.

Djokovic will look to defend his title against either Stanislas Wawrinka or Kei Nishikori in Sunday's final.
