Davis Expected to Be Fully Cleared

Thursday, Sept. 8

According to John Reid of the Times-Picayune, Pels general manager Dell Demps said the expectation is that Davis will be fully cleared with no medical restrictions prior to the beginning of the campaign.

Per Reid, Davis underwent knee surgery in March, and he also dealt with a torn labrum in his left shoulder that didn't require surgery.

The three-time All Star was enjoying an MVP-caliber season in 2015-16 aside from the ailments, as he averaged 24.3 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game for a Pelicans team that was ravaged by injuries.

Davis led New Orleans to the playoffs in 2014-15, and although the team experienced a sharp decline to a 30-52 record last year, a healthy Davis should make a world of difference during the upcoming season.

The Pelicans have a significant lack of depth in the frontcourt with rookie second-round pick Cheick Diallo as the primary backup to Davis at power forward, so Davis' health will likely be the biggest key to New Orleans' success in 2016-17.
