Rory MarsdenSep 6, 2016

Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Christian Eriksen has agreed a new contract with the north London club that will keep him at White Hart Lane until 2020.

The Denmark international's previous deal with Spurs was set to run until 2018, but news that he had put pen to paper on a new deal was confirmed on Tuesday by the club:

Per the Evening Standard's Tom Collomosse, Eriksen, 24, was previously reported to be a key target for Serie A champions Juventus as he stalled over signing a new deal, but he has now committed his future to Tottenham.

The news will come as a big boost to all involved with the club as they look to make another tilt at the Premier League title next season.

Eriksen is one of Tottenham's most important attacking players, providing 13 assists in the English top flight in 2015-16 while scoring six goals, per WhoScored.com.

Meanwhile, only three players created more chances in Europe's top five leagues than the Dane, per Squawka:

Despite eventually finishing third last term, Spurs were Leicester City's main title rivals, and manager Mauricio Pochettino will be looking for an even more effective challenge in 2016-17 while there is also the UEFA Champions League to contend with.

Eriksen is likely to get even better next season as he nears his peak and will be vital to Spurs' prospects across all competitions.

An £11.5 million purchase from Ajax in 2013, Eriksen has become one of Tottenham's key players and now looks set to remain in north London for the foreseeable future.
