Dean Ambrose's Best Booking Options for WWE Battleground 2016
Many wrestling fans will be talking about Roman Reigns when he returns from suspension at WWE Battleground 2016, but the focus should be on Dean Ambrose as he heads into his first pay-per-view title defense.
Add the fact that Seth Rollins will also be in the match—making it a Triple Threat for the WWE Championship between all three former members of The Shield—and this is a pay-per-view main event worthy of the WrestleMania stage.
Here are the best booking options for Ambrose as he defends the world title against Rollins and Reigns at Battleground.
Ambrose Successfully Retains World Title
As great as it will be to see all three members of The Shield in the same match at the same time, the correct booking decision for Battleground would be having Ambrose walk out of the PPV as the reigning WWE champion.
Ambrose has been one of the most reliable Superstars on the roster and one of the most over talents since he made his debut. Now that he has the company’s top title, this is the ideal opportunity to give him an extended run with the belt and see how he impacts merchandise and WWE Network sales.
The perfect booking would be to have Ambrose retain the title in a way that forces another Triple Threat match at SummerSlam, but there is little doubt the WWE draft will split the three Superstars.
Wherever Ambrose ends up being drafted, he deserves to retain the title at Battleground. Then at SummerSlam, WWE can book a huge rematch between all three members of The Shield despite each of them being drafted to different brands.
Roman Reigns Turns on Ambrose
While it’s less likely, the best booking option for Ambrose and the entire main event scene would be having Reigns turn on Ambrose before eventually taking the pinfall loss at the hands of Rollins.
Following his suspension, Reigns will likely receive a negative reaction from the WWE Universe, and officials behind the scenes should embrace that. With Ambrose acting as the face in this Triple Threat storyline, costing him the win and the championship would be the perfect way for Reigns to turn heel.
The fact that Reigns was suspended for a wellness-policy violation should indicate that he won’t walk out of Battleground with the WWE Championship, so he should be the one to take the pinfall. This would not only protect Ambrose, but it would also take Reigns out of the title scene and continue the angle between Rollins and Ambrose.
SummerSlam will need a marquee main event to go along with Brock Lesnar vs. Randy Orton, and Ambrose vs. Rollins would be worthy of that slot. Unfortunately, the WWE draft could throw a major wrench in this storyline.
