Recap
Murray shook off a poor start to cruise past Lu Thursday, dropping three of the first four games but rebounding with a strong performance. The former Wimbledon champion needed less than two hours to book his spot in the third round.
Lu beat Murray at the Olympics in 2008 but hasn't taken a set against the Scot since, and he was thoroughly outclassed Thursday. The 32-year-old couldn't keep up in the rallies, although he scored a handful of excellent points with his direct approach.
As reported by the BBC (h/t the Telegraph's Charlie Eccleshare), Murray admitted he struggled in the opening set:
"The first set was tough. There were a lot of close games, I managed to hang on at the end of the first and then settled down towards the end of the second and was hitting the ball much better in the third and feeling more comfortable.
If you can win matches easily it does help because you can rest. It has been a good start. I will just try and do my best - work hard, keep my head down and hopefully have a good tournament.
"
Lu had won 11 straight and has two Challenger titles on grass on his resume, but once Murray pushed the pace, he lost his composure. Murray cleaned up his groundstrokes in the second set, and Lu never came close to pulling off the upset.
It was a strong showing from Murray, who sent a clear warning sign to the rest of the men's contenders. Australia's John Millman awaits him in the next round.

Fans looking for upsets found their fair share elsewhere, however. Ferrer's exit at the hands of Mahut was one of the biggest of the day, although the Frenchman is known as a strong player on grass. Dominic Thiem is the highest men's seed to head home from the tournament so far, as the men's No. 8 was eliminated by Jiri Vesely.
But an even bigger upset was right on the horizon. Roland Garros winner Muguruza produced a horrific showing against Cepelova, winning just five games on her way out of the tournament.
Per Christopher Clarey of the New York Times, Muguruza put up some dreadful statistics:
His colleague Ben Rothenberg noticed Cepelova has a knack for upsets:
Ivo Karlovic lost in four sets against qualifier Lukas Lacko, despite hitting 34 aces, and Milos Raonic easily took care of Andreas Seppi in three sets.
Williams dropped a set against Sakkari but regained her composure in time to win 7-5, 4-6, 6-3, and Angelique Kerber was never troubled against Varvara Lepchenko. Agnieszka Radwanska survived three match points against Ana Konjuh, who suffered an injury in the final set.
