Hearn Discusses Collapse of GGG-Eubank Showdown

Saturday, July 9

Promotor Eddie Hearn spoke on Sky Sports News HQ regarding Eubank's talks with Golovkin and what caused the potential fight to fall apart:

"

I worked for three weeks on that fight (Eubank Jr versus Golovkin), negotiating with Chris Eubank Sr. It felt like three years.

We got into a position where everybody was ready to sign. He (Eubank Jr) was offered the same pay-per-view deal as Anthony Joshua, Carl Froch and the one that Kell Brook accepted.

Unfortunately they (the Eubanks) made the deal impossible. The things they wanted were just a complete no-go. They were given a deadline and they chose not to take the fight.

"

Eubank Would Face Steep Challenge in Potential GGG Fight

The Golovkin camp had made absolutely no secret about their intentions to get this fight made prior to eventually agreeing with Brook. GGG himself—who currently holds IBO, WBA, WBC and IBF titles—made that clear with this post on social media:

It’s no surprise middleweights are running scared from the 34-year-old, given his recent displays. Golovkin has won all of his 35 professional fights, 32 coming by way of knockout. His second-round obliteration of Dominic Wade was his 22nd win in a row inside the distance.

Here is a look at some of the biggest shots landed by the champion in what was another outstanding performance:

Needless to say, it would have been a massive challenge for Eubank. The Briton has been making steady progress lately, winning the British middleweight crown against Nick Blackwell before beating Tom Doran in the fourth round of his last fight.

The 26-year-old evidently has a lot of quality, and after a loss to Billy Joe Saunders earlier in his career, he has made steady progress. Going up against a big name like Golovkin would be a dream come true for Eubank if he can land the fight sometime in the future. GGG has all the tools to turn the fight into a nightmare pretty quickly, though.
