Ben Simmons Learns Valuable Lesson from D'Angelo Russell in New Foot Locker Ad

Laura DeptaJun 21, 2016

Ben Simmons has long been projected to go as high as No. 1 in the NBA draft, and he'll learn his fate Thursday night.

Though he doesn't yet have an official team, Simmons has hit the ground running on endorsements.

The former LSU forward has already inked a deal with Nike, and he stars in two new ads for Foot Locker that are due to drop on draft day.

The spots—each a part of Foot Locker's "approved" marketing campaign created by worldwide ad agency BBDO—will air nationally on ESPN during the live broadcast of the 2016 NBA draft.

The first features Simmons alongside a trio of pros from the 2015 NBA draft class—Karl-Anthony Towns of the Minnesota Timberwolves, Devin Booker of the Phoenix Suns and D'Angelo Russell of the Los Angeles Lakers.

Each provides sage advice for Simmons on the challenges facing an NBA rookie. Towns and Booker relay the importance of hard work, while Russell simply tosses Simmons' cellphone out the window—a clear reference to a certain leaked-video incident involving Russell's L.A. teammate Nick Young.

The second ad features Simmons essentially giving advice to himself with the help of a papier-mache KAT.

Funny stuff.

The draft broadcast will begin at 7 p.m. ET Thursday, with the Philadelphia 76ers and Lakers set to make the first and second picks, respectively.
